More girls gain valuable experience through this year's placement in the maritime industry.

Nov 20, 2025

This year's placement for girls from upper secondary schools in Ålesund, Molde, and Kristiansund has once again demonstrated how important it is to give young women early insight into the opportunities available in the marine-based industry.

Companies that opened their doors

This year, the girls have been placed with three central players in the maritime industry:

Brunvoll – which works with advanced marine propulsion systems

GC Rieber – with its focus on marine ingredients and sustainability

Seagems Group – a biomanufacturing company that produces natural seafood ingredients by utilizing byproducts from the fishing industry

The companies provided the students with tours, insights into work processes, and the opportunity to try their hand at practical tasks alongside professionals. This was very well received by the participants.

Satisfied students – and useful learning

The feedback from the girls clearly shows how positive the experience has been:

"Very educational, friendly people, and a nice company!".

Another of the girls says this about the placement day:

"Positively surprised – learned a lot about professions I didn’t know about and what education one needs."

All the girls who had the opportunity this year also write that they would recommend other girls to participate if they get the chance.

An important measure for the future

The placement is an activity arranged as part of the EU project WIN-BIG, which is funded by the County Council and Sparebanken Møre. The scheme helps strengthen the recruitment of girls to the blue economy and provides participants with practical knowledge, professional inspiration, and new perspectives on future education and career choices.

The day shows how significant it is to give young women the opportunity to explore the maritime industry up close. The initiative builds both competence and self-confidence – and helps more girls become aware of a growing industry where their skills are needed.
